Kinema Systems

Thanks to a partnership between Boston Dynamics, Kinema Systems and Boston Dynamics, Boston robotics will soon have advanced vision technology. Kinema's 3-D visual system is already a powerful tool to aid industrial robots. It could allow the robots to navigate outside the warehouse. Boston Dynamics is the company that pioneered dynamic balancing for machines. Boston robots can do nearly anything, including maintaining perfect balance in different terrains. They cannot however navigate without human operators.

Boston Dynamics has agreed to immediately start selling and supporting Kinema’s products. It has already opened its Silicon Valley office and plans on expanding it this year. The new office is going to be focused on the development and deployment of robotics for the logistics industry. Boston Dynamics will make use of the technology to improve its robots. Boston Dynamics has been creating robots with these capabilities over a decade. Boston Dynamics also works on other robotics projects within Silicon Valley and will continue to acquire companies as they refine their technology.

Wildcat

The WildCat, the company’s new quadruped-robot vehicle, was featured in a video. WildCat was inspired by the Cheetah. WildCat can run at speeds as high as 25 km/h (16mph) and is not like the AlphaDog robotic pack dog.

The internal combustion engine drives the robot's hydraulic system, and its front/rear legs. Although this is the current design, it could be converted to electric power, though this would require replacing the IC engine and adding more weight and reducing its run time. The downside of the IC-engine is its ability to slow down the robot's pace, which is much lower than that of its competitor Cheetah.

Sandflea

The Boston Dynamics Sandflea robotic automobile is just 11 pounds in weight and uses a carbon-powered piston to propel it. The robotic vehicle was designed to improve the surveillance capabilities of soldiers. Its jump mechanism, which allows it leap multiple times its own elevation, was inspired by the behavior a flea. Researchers have studied the micro-flying abilities of many animals such as jellyfish and snakes. The robotic design of Sand Flea has an internal gyro stabilizer to prevent the robot from spinning end over end and preventing it from providing useful surveillance.

It can jump up to 30 feet and clear obstacles. It can jump up to 25 feet in a row and is powered with CO2. It is built to withstand the most severe battlefield conditions. It can do up to 25 jumps at a time. It can also record video and stream the footage back to soldiers. The robot was developed for military purposes, including in Afghanistan.

Stretch

Stretch is the latest robot to emerge from the Boston Robotics Institute. Stretch has wheels rather than legs and a platform about the size of a pallet. It comes with a custom-built suspension and braking system. This robot is designed to handle boxes of various weights and extract them without damaging neighbors. Boston Robotics developed its perception mast using Pick software. The Pick software is a collection of machine-learning algorithms. To develop this software, the company purchased Kinema Systems.

The Stretch robot has advanced vision technology that can detect the objects it is handling and the surroundings of the container. It can also automatically retrieve packages when unloading. With a high-capacity battery, Stretch can operate for an entire shift. Stretch is flexible enough that it can be moved in trucks. Stretch robots can be quickly installed in warehouse infrastructure. It does not require pre-programming, so operators can begin using it without changing the existing infrastructure.

FAQ

What is the most recent AI invention?

Deep Learning is the newest AI invention. Deep learning is an artificial Intelligence technique that makes use of neural networks (a form of machine learning) in order to perform tasks such speech recognition, image recognition, and natural language process. Google was the first to develop it.

Google's most recent use of deep learning was to create a program that could write its own code. This was achieved by a neural network called Google Brain, which was trained using large amounts of data obtained from YouTube videos.

This enabled the system learn to write its own programs.

IBM announced in 2015 they had created a computer program that could create music. Another method of creating music is using neural networks. These are known as "neural networks for music" or NN-FM.

Who is the leader in AI today?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that focuses on creating intelligent machines capable of performing tasks normally requiring human intelligence, such as speech recognition, translation, visual perception, natural language processing, reasoning, planning, learning, and decision-making.

Today there are many types and varieties of artificial intelligence technologies.

It has been argued that AI cannot ever fully understand the thoughts of humans. Deep learning technology has allowed for the creation of programs that can do specific tasks.

Today, Google's DeepMind unit is one of the world's largest developers of AI software. Demis Hashibis, the former head at University College London's neuroscience department, established it in 2010. DeepMind invented AlphaGo in 2014. This program was designed to play Go against the top professional players.

AI: Good or bad?

AI is both positive and negative. AI allows us do more things in a shorter time than ever before. No longer do we need to spend hours programming programs to perform tasks such word processing and spreadsheets. Instead, we ask our computers for these functions.

The negative aspect of AI is that it could replace human beings. Many believe that robots will eventually become smarter than their creators. This means they could take over jobs.

What does AI look like today?

Artificial intelligence (AI), which is also known as natural language processing, artificial agents, neural networks, expert system, etc., is an umbrella term. It is also known as smart devices.

Alan Turing created the first computer program in 1950. His interest was in computers' ability to think. In his paper, Computing Machinery and Intelligence, he suggested a test for artificial Intelligence. The test tests whether a computer program can have a conversation with an actual human.

John McCarthy introduced artificial intelligence in 1956 and created the term "artificial Intelligence" through his article "Artificial Intelligence".

Many types of AI-based technologies are available today. Some are simple and straightforward, while others require more effort. These include voice recognition software and self-driving cars.

There are two major types of AI: statistical and rule-based. Rule-based uses logic to make decisions. A bank account balance could be calculated by rules such as: If the amount is $10 or greater, withdraw $5 and if it is less, deposit $1. Statistical uses statistics to make decisions. A weather forecast may look at historical data in order predict the future.

What are some examples AI-related applications?

AI is used in many areas, including finance, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, energy, education, government, law enforcement, and defense. Here are just some examples:

  • Finance - AI already helps banks detect fraud. AI can spot suspicious activity in transactions that exceed millions.
  • Healthcare – AI is used for diagnosing diseases, spotting cancerous cells, as well as recommending treatments.
  • Manufacturing - AI can be used in factories to increase efficiency and lower costs.
  • Transportation - Self driving cars have been successfully tested in California. They are being tested across the globe.
  • Utilities are using AI to monitor power consumption patterns.
  • Education - AI is being used in education. For example, students can interact with robots via their smartphones.
  • Government - AI can be used within government to track terrorists, criminals, or missing people.
  • Law Enforcement-Ai is being used to assist police investigations. Detectives can search databases containing thousands of hours of CCTV footage.
  • Defense - AI systems can be used offensively as well defensively. In order to hack into enemy computer systems, AI systems could be used offensively. Protect military bases from cyber attacks with AI.

How do you think AI will affect your job?

AI will replace certain jobs. This includes drivers, taxi drivers as well as cashiers and workers in fast food restaurants.

AI will lead to new job opportunities. This includes business analysts, project managers as well product designers and marketing specialists.

AI will make existing jobs much easier. This includes doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers, nurses and engineers.

AI will improve the efficiency of existing jobs. This includes customer support representatives, salespeople, call center agents, as well as customers.

What is the status of the AI industry?

The AI industry is growing at a remarkable rate. By 2020, there will be more than 50 billion connected devices to the internet. This will enable us to all access AI technology through our smartphones, tablets and laptops.

This shift will require businesses to be adaptable in order to remain competitive. Companies that don't adapt to this shift risk losing customers.

Now, the question is: What business model would your use to profit from these opportunities? Do you envision a platform where users could upload their data? Then, connect it to other users. Perhaps you could offer services like voice recognition and image recognition.

No matter what you do, think about how your position could be compared to others. While you won't always win the game, it is possible to win big if your strategy is sound and you keep innovating.
